When website copy contains a wider variety of terms and keywords all relative to the same topic, it appears more natural, resulting in higher rankings. Conversely, the less valuable a piece of content is, the harder it will be to earn links. In the past, commenting on blogs and forums solely for the sake of building links was the norm. The reality, however, is that many blogs and forums have little or no link value. Therefore, building links via this method will do nothing to boosting your website’s ranking. If an SEO tactic worked for one website that does not mean the same can be successfully applied to another.

Search engines often reward you for updating old content. But remember, you only get a reward for actually making the content more relevant! You don't necessarily need a large social media presence, just an active one. The more you engage with the local community by responding to comments and questions, the more your Facebook, Google+, Twitter and other social profiles are likely to appear in local searches. Use sub-directories rather than sub-domains when possible. Sub-domains do not share link love from the main domain as it is treated as a different domain. When it comes to Search Engine Optimization, the content will play a huge role in your rankings. As they say, “Content is King, Link Building is Queen”. Remember, all the hard work you do in building up your links will be for naught if your content is garbage.

Gone are the days when you have to mention exact keyword phrases a specific number of times at a certain frequency. The type of content you use on a page also matters for indexing. For example, images are indexed differently from text. It is customary to ensure that meaningful images are assigned descriptive “ALT=” text and helpful captions.
