Googlebot uses sitemaps and databases of links discovered during previous crawls to determine where to go next. Whenever the crawler finds new links on a site, it adds them to the list of pages to visit next. If Googlebot finds changes in the links or broken links, it will make a note of that so the index can be updated. Head terms are searched more frequently, have less words (3 or less in most cases) and are often much more generic and competitive as a result. Long-tail terms are longer phrases (commonly over 3 words) and more specific. While long-tail keywords are usually less popular, we can usually tell exactly what the searcher is after. Your website URL should generally be related to/contain your keywords. The domain name keywords are a very important ranking signal for Google, so take advantage of it if you can. *Note that this ranking factor has been made less powerful over the past couple of years, specifically for EMDs (exact match domains where only exact keywords are in the domain name). Keyword research is the root of every optimization project. Keywords are like an elevator pitch for your site: they summarize what you do in a few words or phrases.

Not all negative SEO attacks are readily noticeable

One of the most common problems that I hear from people looking to learn more about SEO is that they don't know what information to trust. The closer to the start of the title tag any given keyword is, the more likely it will be to rank for that keyword based query. Google is an endless stream of free organic traffic and by optimizing your site and working on the critical components involved, you can get this traffic and continually grow it over the coming months and years. The first thing that has to be considered, when planning your website content, is target audience. You have to think about who will want to visit your site, what they want to see, and why they want to visit. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking “My target audience is everyone.”

Just because you have similar keyword rankings does not always mean you are direct competitors

People love to browse through a clearance section for bargains. You could include overstocked items or products nearing the end of their buying season. A dollar section for low priced merchandise can generate a lot of sales, especially if your website offers pop up suggestions for related items from your store. The customers will feel like they are getting a great deal and you will get more sales. When optimizing your Google My Business page, remember to upload your business logo and photos of your business (staff, office building, etc.). For an online business with no physical location, you can hide your address, but be sure to fill in and validate every other piece of information entered. The mechanism of a backlink is essentially a vote from another website to yours - a vote that says that your website is authoritative enough or trusted enough to link to. In the early days of SEO, it was the quantity, not quality of links that mattered. “Link building” consisted of mass spamming and buying of links, online directory submissions, building bad links, mass commenting on sites and blogs and using automated link bait.

Your content marketing campaign will fail unless you integrate SEO

Just typing in an incomplete search term will result in a whole lot of unnecessary results which might not be what you are looking for. Make it easier for search engines to index your website. Users searching for your site on Google might not necessarily want to land on your homepage. Gaz Hall, from SEO Hull, had the following to say: "Cloaking is when you present different content or URLs to your visitors than you do to the search engines. Along those lines, a “sneaky” redirect is when site owners “embed a link in JavaScript that redirects the user to a different page with the intent to show the user a different page than the search engine sees…"

Create helpful and shareable content

Even though keyword research is the first and most important step in your SEO strategy, there are a few corners to cut. Using tools to make a long list of potential keywords is a great way to speed up your keyword research. Getting your website indexed is the only way that Internet marketing can be successful. It’s the entire starting point. Without indexation, you’re doomed. Now, as you might expect from Google, the definition of what constitutes a good landing page experience is a little vague and can vary widely from one page to another. Search engines display page titles in their search results. In addition, search engines use page titles in order to recognize what information the website contains.
